February 2006 Beaded 3D Heart

You can find a variety of Free Arts and Craft Project here, including beaded project and other project.  This month, I would like to feature the instruction on a beaded 3D heart shape made using seed beads and long bugle beads that can be turned into pendant or charm.

Beaded 3D Heart

The pictorials are illustrated with spaces between beads for a clearer direction, in the actual beading, there should be no spaces.

What you need:

1)    Small round seed beads
2)    Long bugle beads.
3)    Beaded string (nylon or wire) 0.25mm

Step 1: Cut a piece of thread around half a meter long.
String on 6 small seed beads. Cross both ends of the thread at the last added bead as shown.
Remember to balance out both end of the threads - both end of the thread should be the same length and your beaded ring should be at the middle of the thread.
Step 2: On the left (blue) string, add on one long bugle, a small seed bead, one more long bugle.
On the right (black) string, add one long bugle, a small seed bead and loop this string through the last long bugle added on the left string.
Step 3: On the left (black) string, add on one seed bead, a long bugle, a small seed bead and a last long bugle.
On the right (blue) string, add one seed bead and loop this string through the last long bugle bead added on the left string.
Step 4: Now we'll go a bit faster.

On the left (blue) string, add on one seed bead, a long bugle, a small seed bead and a last long bugle.
On the right (black) string, add one seed bead and loop this string through the last long bugle bead added on the left string.

You will be repeating step 3 next. (this should be easy even just looking at the illustration)

For the last triangle, on the left (blue) string, add one seed bead and a last long bugle and exit this string through the seed bead circle from step 1 as shown.
loop the right (black) string through all the five seed beads in the center of these triangles and exit at the seed bead where you begin, continue to loop this string through the left long bulge from the first triangle and also through one seed bead from the bead circle from step 1, then continue to loop one step further though the last bugle added on the left string.

Step 5: Continue by:
On the left (black) string, add one long bugle.
On the right (blue) string, add one seed bead, one long bugle and a last seed bead, loop this string through the long bugle added on the left string and cross it further by going through the nearest seed bead from the first bead circle from step 1.

Repeat this one more time.

For the last triangle for this step:
On the left (blue) string, add one seed bead, one long bugle.
On the right (black) string, after looping it though the seed bead from the bead circle from step 1, continue looping it though one long bugle from the very first triangle. Add one seed bead and loop it though the last long bugle added on the left string.
Step 6: Continue by:
On the right (blue) string, add one seed bead, one long bugle, one seed bead and one last long bugle.
On the left (black) string, add one seed bead and loop this string through the last long bugle added from the right string.

Repeat this one more time.

For the last triangle for this step:
On the right (blue) string, add one seed bead, one long bugle and one last seed bead.
On the left (black) string, add one seed bead and loop the string through the 5 bead circle (shown in green string) exiting from the same seed bead you started with, continue to pass this string through the nearest long bugle and then through the last seed bead added on the right string.

Now you can tie off.

Repeat step 1 to 6 again and make another heart shape so that you have two heart shape (you'll join them later to become 3-D)
Step 7: Joining: Use a new piece of string, place both hearts one on top of the other.
The black dot is the starting point (the pointed bottom of the heart).
Left (blue) string goes through the two seed bead of the top heart, follow by looping it through the long bugle of the bottom heart, then loop through the 3 seed beads of the top heart, then long bugle of the bottom.... continue this way until you reached where you started.
Right (black) string goes through the two seed bead of the bottom heart, follow by looping it through the long bugle of the top heart, then loop through the 3 seed beads of the bottom heart, then long bugle of the top heart.... continue this way until you reached where you started.

Pull tight and tie off.

Tips: if you find your piece not a stiff 3-D, you probably did not pull tight through out the whole beading process, always remember to pull tight on each step.
