November 2006 Beaded Snowman Project

You can find a variety of Free Arts and Craft Project here, including beaded project and other project. This month's project is a beaded 3 D Christmas snowman made with Japanese seed beads using the Right Angle Weave technique (RAW).

The pictorials are illustrated with spaces between beads for a clearer direction, in the actual beading, there should be no spaces.

Always Remember to pull tight on EVERY STEP.

Back to page 1 of this beaded snowman pattern tutorial!

Step 10
  • You should have one smaller beaded ball attached to a round beaded circle pentagon before this step.
  • This step is similar to step 6 except for the number of beads added at different locations.
  • Following the principle of: Always adding beads on the left hand string and crisscrossing with the right hand string and looping back through old beads after completing a circle and with the string pointing towards the inside of the whole piece of creation.
We shall continue to add silver white beads this way but with different number of beads each time. The red dot is where you ended off and the starting point.

Take left string, add 4 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 1 old bead.
Take left string, add 3 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 2 old beads.

(note you have to pass the string further after the old beads, through the very first bead added on this step)
Take left string, add 2 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 1 adjoining bead.
(note you have to pass the right string through the next bead beside it - shown where the red arrow is coming out of).

Take left string, add 1 bead, crisscross lines.
Step 13
  • Following the principle of: Always adding beads on the left hand string and crisscrossing with the right hand string and looping back through old beads after completing a circle and with the string pointing towards the inside of the whole piece of creation.
We shall continue to add silver white beads this way.

Before starting, pass the top black string through the top adjoining bead and pass the bottom red string through the bottom adjoining bead.

Take left string, add 3 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 3 old beads.
Take left string, add 2 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 3 old beads.
Take left string, add 2 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 3 old beads.
Take left string, add 2 beads, crisscross lines, pass through 3 old beads. (note you have to pass the string further after the old beads, through the very first bead added on this step)
Take left string, add 1 bead, crisscross lines. Pull tight, tie off and pass the remaining string back through the piece for a more secure piece.
Step 14
  • The Eyes:

Cut a short piece of new string, pass it through the beads as indicated by the red dot, balance out both ends.

Add one black bead, crisscross both lines through the lower adjoining beads towards the center of the face.
Pass the top black string through the top two beads on the center 5 bead circle (from step 1), pass the bottom red string through the bottom 3 beads on the same 5 bead circle (both strings should end up crisscrossing on one same bead.

Add another black bead for the left eye, crisscross both strings through the lower adjoining bead and tie off.
Step 15
  • The Scarf: string a circle of mix color beads, green and red, make sure you measure around the snowman's neck as you do so.
Once you reached the diameter of the snowman's neck, place it on the snowman's neck, crisscross both lines through the last added bead, balance out both ends.

On each end add mix color beads again until you get the scarf length you need, loop back the string (remember to skip the last added bead) all the way to the top, for both side of the string, tie off.
Step 16
  • The hat:

On the top left or right corner of the snowman's head (where you would like to add the hat) look for a bead circle with 6 beads (shown in green at the center of the pictorial).

Following the principle of: Always adding beads on the left hand string and crisscrossing with the right hand string and looping back through old beads after completing a circle and with the string pointing towards the inside of the whole piece of creation.

Cut a new piece of string and start at any one of the six beads on it's head.

Add 3 red beads, crisscross both lines, pass through one old bead.

Add 2 red beads, crisscross both lines, skip and ignore one bead, pass through the next old bead.

Add 2 red beads, crisscross both lines, pass through one old bead. (pass the line further through the first bead added in this step)

Add 1 red bead, crisscross both lines.
  • The line color will now switch from black and blue to orange and purple for a better understanding of the next step.

Add 2 red beads, crisscross both lines, pass through one red old bead.
Add 1 red bead, crisscross both lines, pass through one red old bead.
Add 1 red bead, crisscross both lines, pass through one red old bead. (pass the string further through the first bead added on the orange line)
Add one last white bead, crisscross and tie off.
  • Use your creativity to add on stick hands and carrot shape nose.
